Section 2: Open and Responsible Research Assessment – Current Strategic Activity
Please outline any current initiatives that address recognition and reward for open research within the context of research assessment practices, e.g., recruitment, promotion, probation and annual performance development review (max 250 words).
We think Open Research practices are central to our mission to be the world’s leading applied university. Hence, we have a university position statement on open research, and are signatories to DORA. We currently promote Open Research activities through a network of Open Research Champions, dedicated workshops, and an Open Research podcast. Together with the University of Sheffield we organise Sheffield OpenFest. We will be launching an Open Research Award in September 2024.
Section 3: Open and Responsible Research Assessment – Planned Activity
Please outline any planned activity to address recognition and reward for open research within the context of research assessment reform (max 250 words).
Although our recruitment and promotion procedures, as well as our internal research funding awards, are adjusted to DORA requirements and Open Research friendly, we recognise that the next step in achieving a culture change towards Open Research is to create incentives/rewards in recruitment and promotion as well as in yearly appraisals and through awarding internal research funding. We hope that participation in the OR4 project will help us achieve this.
