Lavinia Gambelli is the Open Research Culture Advisor (ORCA) at the University of Bristol and is dedicated to making open research more inclusive and impactful across all disciplines, including those where it has been traditionally overlooked, such as the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Lavinia is committed to improving research culture, ensuring that a wider range of contributions, beyond journal articles and conference papers are recognized and valued. This shift, she believes, will not only enhance research itself but also improve the well-being and job security of researchers.

With a background in microbiology and structural biology, Lavinia has seen first-hand how systemic challenges impact researchers, particularly early-career academics. Her passion for change led her away from the lab and into roles that help build stronger, more supportive research environments. Now at Bristol, she is actively involved in the Research Culture Committee and Open Research Working Group, coordinating initiatives that embed open research practices and foster community among researchers.
