We are delighted to report that we received 26 nominations for this year’s Dorothy Bishop Prize, a testimony to the many early career researchers doing great work around open research. The review panel were faced with a tough job because nomination letters for the majority of candidates provided compelling evidence of their strong contributions to improving research and promoting open research within and beyond the UK. The panel evaluated all the nominations and drew up a shortlist based on the award criteria, namely:
- Evidence of a sustained contribution to the promotion and delivery of activities that have served to improve research or promote open research practices. Contributions were evaluated relative to opportunity.
- Evidence that the award will raise the profile of the work of the nominee. And, how it may improve uptake and adoption of the activity or activities.
- Alignment with the mission and values of UKRN.
In alphabetical order, the shortlist for the Dorothy Bishop Prize 2024 are:
- Rob J. Boyd
- Alejandro Coca Castro
- Lukas Hughes-Noehrer
- Kelly Lloyd
- Lucy Timbrell
- Nicholas Wise
The panel agree that all the shortlisted candidates would be worthy recipients of the prize. However, there can only be 3 winners, each of whom will be awarded a prize of £500, in the form of Amazon vouchers, and a “Doscar” (a highly coveted Lego minifigure of Dorothy Bishop). The winners will be announced at the online UKRN annual meeting on Friday 22 March. Red carpet and formal attire optional.
