Sustaining open research: challenges and opportunities for institutions and researchers

10/11/2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Registration for this event has closed

The University of Bristol and UK Reproducibility Network are delighted to host Sustaining open research: challenges and opportunities for institutions and researchers at the University of Bristol, on Thursday 10 November 2022 from 17:00 to 19:00 GMT.

Please note, by joining this workshop you are agreeing to follow the UKRN code of conduct.

Openness and transparency are foundational principles of academic research; enabling scrutiny, demonstrating rigour and promoting impact. However, as research becomes more complex in its organisation and more dependent on sophisticated technologies, meaningful openness and transparency are not necessarily easy to achieve or to sustain. This is true both for researchers and for institutions. Researchers may lack the relevant infrastructure, skills or community norms. Institutions may lack the business models, policies or staff. At this event, Professor Brian Nosek, co-founder and director of the Center for Open Science in the US, will reflect on these challenges and how they might best be met.

This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring leading international experts:

  • Brian Nosek, Executive Director and Co-founder of Center for Open Sciences, USA
  • Rachel Bruce, Head of Open Research at UK Research and Innovation, UK
  • Rachael Gooberman-Hill, Director of Elizabeth Blackwell Institute, Bristol, UK
  • Sarah de Rijcke, Director at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden, Netherlands
  • Tony Ross-Hellauer, Leader of the Open and Reproducible Research Group, Graz, Austria

Please note, this is a hybrid event, and you will need to confirm whether you are attending in-person, or online.

A Q&A session is included in the event, but please be aware we will not be taking live questions on the day. If you’d like to pose questions for Brian Nosek, or any of the panel members, you will be asked to submit them by Wednesday 9 November 2022. We will be in touch with you in the lead up to the event, to let you know how to submit your questions.

The event will be recorded and made available publicly. By completing and submitting the form you are consenting to being recorded while attending the event in-person or online.
