Local Network Leads
The network’s grassroots reproducibility representatives and points of contact at their respective institutionsOrganisation and membership
Local Networks provide a mechanism through which the aims of the UKRN can be promoted within that institution. A Local Network Lead provides the point of contact for UKRN, and represents the grassroots network of researchers at that institution. Local Networks are self-organising, but we encourage them to ensure their membership is open to academic and research staff (at all levels) and professional services staff. It is intended that these Local Networks will grow, both in number and size, over time, as researchers elect to participate in UKRN activity.
Group Chair: David Smailes
David Smailes is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Northumbria University, where he is the Local Network Lead for UKRN. This role involves promoting open research practices at a grassroots level through, for example, organising the University’s Reproducibilitea journal club.
David is also the Open Science Lead for the Early Career Hallucinations Researchers Group, where he has led working groups that aimed to improve the robustness of hallucinations research and through which he has encouraged more clinical psychology/psychiatry journals to adopt Registered Reports as an article format, as part of the Registered Reports Now campaign.
