Glasgow’s approach to UKRN and the Open Research Programme differs from that of funded institutions, with responsibilities distributed across a team rather than a single dedicated ORCA. Valerie, who has played multiple roles—including interim UKRN Institutional Lead—oversees this team, ensuring both local and Programme-wide activities are supported. Though she had not initially sought the ORCA role, she stepped in to maintain Glasgow’s engagement when the previous lead transitioned to a Research Council position. With a background in information management across civil engineering, oil and gas, and pharmaceuticals, Valerie moved into academia in 2000 and now leads Glasgow’s team supporting researchers in open research and related areas.
